What iLearnforum Offers
iLearnforum is an online learning platform focused on Southeast Asia, governance, capacity development, and sustainable development. iLearnforum’s learning model is organized into subject areas and modules. Its Southeast Asia offerings span four main areas: (1) Southeast Asian Studies, covering major themes such as history, heritage, culture, arts, music, society, economy, politics, and regional relations. (2) SoutheastAsia Explore, blending online learning with in-country experience across history, culture, society, and current affairs. (3) Reading Southeast Asia, featuring books on the region and highlighting their contributions to Southeast Asian studies. (4) Southeast Asian Languages and Literature, exploring linguistic foundations, sociolinguistics, and literary traditions from classical to contemporary periods. In addition, iLearnforum offers three management areas, each informed by case studies from Southeast Asia and the broader Asian region: (1) Governance, examining public administration reform, decentralization, access to justice, anti-corruption, and political participation. (2) Capacity Development, strengthening practical skills in policy analysis, monitoring and evaluation, planning, public integrity, and the use of governance assessment indices. (3) Sustainable Development, exploring ideas and practices that promote inclusive growth, social policy, SME capacity building, a just energy transition, and legal aid. iLearnforum is designed to make learning engaging, practical, and flexible through a module-based format suited to modern life. Each module offers a focused, self-contained learning experience built around a specific topic, and learners can combine modules to create a broader path of study tailored to their interests. Depending on demand, some modules may be offered more than once a year. Most combine essential concepts with practical analytical skills that support both personal enrichment and professional growth. Modules run for 6 to 12 weeks, are offered quarterly, and include 7.5 to 30 hours of lecture text or audio content. Learning materials may include lecture texts, AI-generated audio, live or recorded Zoom sessions, slides, and curated readings. Participants engage with these materials, complete assigned readings, join discussions, and submit assignments. Those who earn more than 80% receive a certificate of completion. Because the platform is fully online, learning remains convenient, accessible, and cost-effective. By the end of each module, learners can expect to deepen their knowledge, strengthen their analytical skills, and build confidence in addressing real-world issues. In some cases, they may also apply what they have learned to public affairs and social change as informed and thoughtful participants. At its core, iLearnforum makes learning about Southeast Asia and selected management topics more flexible, practical, and accessible than ever. With an internet connection, learners can study anytime and anywhere through a well-balanced mix of self-paced and collaborative learning, supported by instructor feedback.
Why iLearnforum?
iLearnforum was founded in June 2026 by Dr. Thaveeporn Vasavakul to promote learning on Southeast Asia, governance, capacity development, and sustainable development. She serves as its coordinator and instructor and explains the platform’s origins below. The creation of iLearnforum was shaped by two main influences: her academic background and professional experience, along with the gaps she observed in the study of Southeast Asia. Her academic training includes studying Southeast Asia and government at Cornell University, followed by postdoctoral research at the Australian National University. She has also taught and conducted research on Southeast Asia—especially Vietnam—in the United States, Australia, and Vietnam. Professionally, she has worked as a researcher and consultant across Southeast Asia and parts of Africa. Her work in governance has focused on public administration reform, decentralization, access to justice, anti-corruption, and political participation. In capacity development, she has specialized in project management, logical framework analysis, policy planning, policy analysis, and monitoring and evaluation. Her work in sustainable development has covered social policy, inclusive growth, SME support, green agriculture, a just energy transition, and legal aid. These combined experiences define iLearnforum’s mission: to support individuals interested in Southeast Asia and related fields such as governance, capacity development, and sustainable development. iLearnforum also addresses a key gap in education. Although Southeast Asian studies and international development have long been established and supported by extensive publications, they are typically taught separately from interdisciplinary management fields. It remains uncommon to integrate these areas within a single learning environment. The platform offers an online solution to bridge this gap. While e-learning has limitations—particularly reduced face-to-face interaction—it provides important advantages, including accessibility, flexibility, and cost-effectiveness, making it a practical option for lifelong learners.
